Voting for internationals & non-dutch nationals

our program in English

Groningen, the greenest city in the Netherlands. That's the goal of the Party for the Animals. Everyone in Groningen deserves a green neighbourhood, healthy food, clean air, and a nice place to live. This is good for people, animals, and the environment. And it's urgently needed to fight climate change.

So, on March 18th, vote for the Party for the Animals. Naturally.

NO TO ANIMAL SUFFERING, YES TO ANIMAL RIGHTS

- In all its policies, the city (of: municipality) council pays attention to animal rights and animal welfare, whether it concerns construction, mobility, healthcare, events, or nature.
- In this growing city (of: municipality), we provide places of tranquillity. Parks, such as Sterrebos and Stadspark, remain peaceful places for people and animals.

LESS POLLUTION, MORE NATURE

- We will make Groningen even greener. We will protect existing nature and plant as many new plants and trees as possible.
- Healthy food is a basic necessity: food gardens in every neighbourhood, district, and village.
- Groningen will be CO₂-neutral by 2035.
- We will work together with residents, neighbourhood associations, and nature organisations on the energy transition.

LESS EXCLUSION, MORE COEXISTENCE

- We invest in culture, make museum visits more affordable, and preserve creative breeding grounds such as the Biotoop.
- From the housing market to public housing: we build in a circular, nature-inclusive, affordable way, with space for alternative forms of housing such as the Biotoop, Westpark and Woldwijk.
- Livelihood for everyone by investing heavily in tackling poverty and debt problems.
- Safety first: street harassment, violence, racism and discrimination have no place in our city (of: municipality)
- Everyone healthier: we reimburse dental costs for those on low incomes and make the air cleaner.
- We show solidarity with refugees and provide humane accommodation spread across the municipality

Vote Party for the Animals- Our history

The Party for the Animals (Partij voor de Dieren) was founded in the Netherlands on 28 October 2002 as the first political party in the world to centre animal welfare and ecological concerns in its mission. Initially focused on animal rights and welfare, it has grown into a broader ecological and sustainability movement with representation at multiple levels of government.

Nationally, the party entered the Dutch parliament in 2006, breaking new ground by gaining seats in the House of Representatives and later in the Senate and European Parliament. Over the following years it expanded into local politics and now holds seats in many municipal councils, provincial councils and conservancy across the country.

In Groningen, the Party for the Animals has become a visible local force: w are represented in the Groningen municipal council for 16 years, and after last elections in 2022 we even participate in the municipal executive. This is a historic step for our party who is rooted in animal rights and environmental politics.

These four years we have shown that  can secure animal rights and nature rights in our policies. We put animal welfare, nature, and sustainability at the heart of municipal decision-making. We have banned hunting on municipal lands, ensured better protection of urban trees and green spaces, and protected nature such as Driebondsbos and De Oude Held. Our party has also promoted organic and sustainable food policies and embedded climate neutrality goals in city planning. We also established the first “Protein Transition” alderman.  Through these efforts, ecological and animal welfare considerations are now firmly part of Groningen’s governance.

We are also an advocate for human rights such as LGBT+ rights, women rights and we are very critical on human rights violations. We want a community where anyone can be theirselves regardless of gender, sexuality, faith or ethnicity.
